Add a little Chocolate

Jade loving on her little brother. Chance enjoying the fireworks on the
4th of July.
He adores her!!

My friend Annie says that being a stay-at-home mom is like the movie Groundhog Day. We change diapers, feed little mouths, clean-up messes, play games, change more diapers and then go to sleep, only to do it all over again the next day.

In the book we have been reading this summer, Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World, the author quotes Linda Andersen from her book Love Adds a Little Chocolate. I offer this as encouragement to all of us:

"Duty can pack an adequate sack lunch, but love may decide to enclose a little love note inside. . . Obligation sends the children to bed on time, but love tucks the covers in around their necks and passes out kisses and hugs (even to teenagers!). . . Duty gets offended quickly if it isn't appreciated, but love learns to laugh a lot and to work for the sheer joy of doing it. Obligation can pour a glass of milk, but quite often, love adds a little chocolate."

I'm curious, anyone have a special way you add chocolate to your day??????

P.S. Chance is crying much less and smiling much more, therefore, so am I!!!

So glad you have rejoined the blogging world! I check your site often to see if there are any updated photos of those sweet babies. I so miss getting to see them on a regular basis. I love the quote - what a great reminder at this stage! I'm a little too tired at the moment to think of what my "chocolate" might be, but I will be thinking about it... love you so much!

I read that book last spring and really enjoyed it. I don't remember that quote specifically, but what a great reminder of how God's version of love enables us to act. In answer to the the question, I have a lot of ways to add chocolate to my day, but the most recent one is at night, after Elizabeth has gone to bed, I go and get her out and hold her in my arms for a few minutes. She's not a cuddler when she's awake, so these times are very special to me and fulfill my "sweet-tooth." Hope you're doing well. The kiddos are absolutely beautiful. Aren't we so blessed?!! Hi Paula!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I need to focus on adding more chocolate to my kiddos' days. I cracked up at the "Groundhog Day" comment. SO true. Kara's comment almost made me cry. That's the sweetest thing ever. Lately I am literally adding chocolate to Hayley's days. She loves M&M's and she has a stuffed bunny with a zipper pocket in the shape of an egg. I'll stick in a small handful of "M-N-EES" and say, "I wonder what is in the bunny's egg today?" It's so cute to watch her tear into the zipper and squeal with delight as she sees the candy and says, "Thank you, bunny!"

Chance is precious! (Jade too, of course) So happy he is happier lately! I love seeing their pictures.

Heather, I'm so glad there are more smiles in your house these days!

This post was a great reminder to me. It is too easy for me to get caught up in the mode of answering the call of duty. It's always good to catch a breather and be reminded that it is all about Christ's love and how we reflect that to one another.

My chocolate these days: On random occasions, I have been getting AK up early from rest time so that she and I can spend time doing 4 (almost 5)-year-old stuff together with no 2-year-old interruptions. She loves it and so do I!

    Heather--
What sweet pictures of your kids. The groundhog day analogy rang true for me too, and I am thinking about ways of adding more chocolate to our days.
I love to surprise Ava by letting her ride the cars at the mall or grocery store, especially on those busy days when she's having to run errands with me. She gets so much most joy out a 45 second ride on a plastic car. It's worth all 3 quarters and the extra few minutes to see her that excited!
